There’s something very comforting about dining al fresco beside the Thames. In a hectic and ever-changing world this wonderful river remains a strong and steadfast constant.

And now this historic and quintessentially British waterway has inspired us to bring back some legendary dishes that helped to make this country great!

We’re talking national treasures such as:

  • beer-battered fish and chips – with mushy peas and tartar sauce
  • sausage and mash – three Cumberland sausages, buttered mash and onion gravy
  • homemade steak and ale pie – with buttered mash, seasonal vegetables and a jug of gravy.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here. In this burst of patriotic culinary fervour we’ve neglected to mention our…

Classic Starters And Sharing Platters

There’s nothing quite like a freshly made homemade soup and crusty bread to set you up for the aforementioned main attractions.

Or you could opt for deep fried brie with cranberry dip…or chicken liver pâté with apple and ginger chutney…or Wexford button mushrooms in a rich stilton sauce on ciabatta.

Prefer seafood? Why not start the proceedings with a classic prawn cocktail in a Marie Rose sauce…or moules marinière in a rich white wine and garlic butter sauce.

Sharing platters are another tempting option:

  • classic nachos in cheese, smothered with salsa, guacamole and sour cream
  • fritto misto – smoked mackerel, smoked salmon, whitebait and squid rings with dipping sauces and flat bread
  • meat platter – ribs, meatballs, chicken goujon, garlic bread and onion rings.

Marvellous Mains

By now you’ve gathered this is very much a return to the much-loved meals that make dining out beside the Thames such a pleasure – either basking on the terrace or cosy indoors.

We have 10 mains to choose from – the timeless trilogy we mentioned at the start plus hearty classics such as:

  • steak (choose from 10oz sirloin or ribeye) – either with béarnaise sauce, peppercorn sauce or ‘Dallas’ (mushrooms, onions in garlic butter)
  • hunter’s chicken in sweet BBQ sauce
  • braised beef cheek in creamy mash with glazed carrots, dumplings and gravy
  • baked sea bream with butter new potatoes and seasonal vegetables
  • pork chop with red cabbage, roasted new potatoes and glazed apple
  • butternut squash risotto with picked mushrooms and beetroot crisps
  • ham, eggs and chips – hand-sliced gammon with two eggs and chips.
  • Fancy something a bit fiery for the main event? Try the Big Rib Off, the Double Dealer (chicken and ribs) or one of our burgers in chilli, jalapeno and cheese sauce.

If you’d like something cooler then all of the above are available with New Yorker sauce (Monterey Jack cheese and streaky bacon) or BBQ sauce with cheese and onion rings.

Feeling hungry? The Ultimate Combo lives up to its name with a 5oz sirloin steak, BBQ chicken breast, BBQ ribs, onion rings, coleslaw, corn on the cob and fries.

Dessert Classics

We’re bringing back delicious classic desserts too! So leave plenty of room for:

  • chef’s seasonal crumble with custard
  • wild berries Eton Eton mess
  • sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce
  • rocky road sundae with chocolate sauce and marshmallow
  • fruit salad.

Or you could just chill with a few scoops of ice cream: vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, mint chocolate, praline, rum and raisin, caramel, amaretto, grape or pear.
